Statement:
Travis Lindquist (b.1969) grew up in an idyllic seaside community in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He is primarily a painter but has branched out into other mediums, including sculpture, video, photography, sound, and digital animation.

Travis Lindquist works with materials relating to the human condition such as newspaper clippings, historical reference books and propaganda, early film and television stills, and found materials, in an attempt to memorialize the anonymous or disappeared and explores the concepts of perception and latent memory. In this current body of work, Lindquist investigates the duality of the human spirit. He creates haunting, sophisticated portraits by reinvigorating obscure historical figures in to a contemporary context.

The great thing about Travis Lindquist is that his art and his life are basically the same thing…Whether the immediate subject is mind-controlling cults or anonymous corporate killers, the work generally circles back to the ancient twin themes of power and corruption. In the last year Travis's paintings were full of dubious characters like Jim Jones, the cult leader; Bob Ford, who betrayed and killed Jesse James; and nameless functionaries of the military/industrial complex. Sometimes the paintings are densely layered with text or over-painted images. Stylistically he shifts between deft realism and a cruder drawing style that bluntly expresses the conviction of the true believer. -Joe Heaps Nelson, 2008, feature article, Whitehot Magazine

Travis Lindquist received his diploma from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA and his BFA from Tufts University, Boston, MA. Since graduating, Lindquist has worked on numerous projects as a curator, collaborator, as well as his own solo career. He worked as an animator on Richard Linklater’s, Waking Life, is the founding member of the infamous Goldmine Shithouse, and has exhibited extensively in New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, London, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Miami, Salt Lake City, and Stockholm. Lindquist recently moved from New York City to Los Angeles where he currently works and lives.
