Personal History
___________________________________________________________________________________

Alex Bay is an artist whose work evinces a tension between painting and sculpture and which reflects a passion for materials and for constructions. The use of electronics and electro-mechanical devices introduces an aesthetic influenced by modern technology.

Bay studied under the late Gene Davis of the Washington Color School. He has undergone training in such technical areas such as electric arc and gas welding, professional computer animation and graphics, and video editing and production.

Bay has shown in the Washington D.C. region for many years. He is represented by the Parish Gallery in Georgetown the Caelum Gallery in Chelsea, New York. His work has appeared at a number of other local galleries over the years, including the former Henri’s on P Street (1983-4). In 1990 Donald Kuspit awarded Mr. Bay’s work first prize for sculpture at the Peninsula Fine Arts Center, Newport News, Virginia.
