Vita / Lebenslauf:
My current work is an ongoing extended series called "Aenigmate": Mixed media / altarpiece constructions. These images likened to illuminated manuscript pages, reliquaries and icons, stem from my interest in Medieval, conceptual and narrative modes. They pertain largely to Biblical themes centered around the life of Mary (the Annunciation, the Mother and Child theme), the Passion of Christ and the Apocalypse (with the construction of the Heavenly City). My images in the series also focus upon “maps and diagrams” of ancient architectural church floor plans, ornate windows that act as a portal to mystery and grace, the park as paradise garden (or as model of the Garden of Eden) and esoteric abstractions derived from my studies in philosophy, alchemy and mysticism. The series title Aenigmate means: At this present time (being earthbound and limited in finitude) to see and ascertain only the dimmest of shadows of what truly is and what is to come; like looking through a dark glass. I seek to convey something of the "mysterium tremendum" – or a visual approximation of the experience of awe, divine mystery and terrible beauty.

“I am primarily interested in space (or the charting of a deeply personal and resonant space as it relates to mysticism and memory). In the ever-changing realm of artistic creation, I am forever searching for a zone, an open space, a place of calm to call my own, an area open to imagination and revelation…. Standing here at the end of time on the springboard of eternity; staring in the face of civilization - the sheer weight of all that has already been said and done; the party long over and only crumbs remaining on the table, …I seek to capture the fragile sparkling of the last interstices as I reach in faith out to the void, create and pull something of substance back into the here and now.”

Aktivitäten / Ausstellungen:
Robert Eustace is currently working on a 'life thesis' written project concerning the themes of: [Childhood, Mentoring, Art as Calling and Vocation, Destiny]. He is at work with the continuation of his ongoing "Aenigmate" series of wall pieces or mixed media Altarpiece Constructions, as well as conducting some new experiments towards future ways of art making. As each new work unfolds and finds its place and personality in the whole, some basic themes of the series are: The Mother and Child - Life of Mary / the Passion of Christ / the Apocalypse / the Heavenly City / the Park as 'Eden' or paradise garden / the Window as portal to divine grace and mercy / floor plans for church and labyrinth. Lastly, some artworks are concerned with more primitive intuitive abstractions and center around studies in alchemy and mysticism. Eustace is also deeply engaged with music – everything from forms of ancient chant to European avant-jazz to current left field ambient techno and electronica (the influence of which has had a nurturing and sustaining effect on this work).
