As an artist I go under the name DzR, I began my interest in art using photography as my medium, firstly using a 35mm then a digital SLR camera and concentrating on photo-shoots with females as my subject matter, I also took photographs of nature and wildlife in parks and the countryside.
My first 3D pieces were ’relief works’ in plaster-of-paris and this allowed me to gain an understanding of how the 3D world worked.
As mentioned, I carried out many photo-shoots with the female body as my subject and I wanted to see if I could create sculptures of the female form too.
Again using plaster as my medium, I made a series of 8 life size torsos using individual female models.
Discovering clay for the first time, I initially created a limited run of fantasy helmet sculptures that allowed me my first experiences with glazing, and all the heartache that can entail, as sometimes the final result can be very different from what was expected.
The pieces I am working on now are part of my continuing experiments with firing clay and glazes, creating Ancient Stone, Bronze and Pewter with varying success.
I am now creating figurative pieces in glass, bronze, pewter and mixed media.
Most of my work can be displayed indoors or in your garden as most at fired to be frost-proof.
I carry out personal commissions for sculptures and for photo-shoot sessions. If interested email DzR@ntlworld.com
The installation shown here was my biggest so far and was based on my past relationships. It incorporates teh two materials i love most, ceramics and Metal and I find that the two form a strong juxtaposition when in the same installation
